Do This Mindful Eating Technique For Easy Weight Loss

Hold your horses. Slow down!

It's a long and forgotten theme in today's fast paced society. Our lacking ability to slow down is causing devastating health effects in our population especially with the way we eat.

Personally, I have seen numerous people wolfing down their food like there is no tomorrow. We eat like we've been starving for days, or its our last meal on Earth! One of the most distinguishable characteristics of our inability to slow down when we eat, is the rapidly increasing rate of obesity.

Obesity is at an all time high of almost 36%, and almost 70% of Americans are overweight-with similar rates around the world (Center for Disease Control). It has been proven scientifically that eating fast increases our risk for becoming overweight.

So, why does eating fast make us overweight?

1. We cannot gauge how biologically hungry we are!

Oftentimes we will eat far beyond what we should because we ate too fast. How many of you have eaten a large amount of food and not realized you were overfull until about 10 minutes after? Probably every single one of us.

There is a slight lag between how full we are in our stomach, and to how quickly that is communicated to our brain. By eating too fast, we don't give our stomach adequate time to communicate how full we are to our brain.

2. Eating too fast doesn't allow us to enjoy the dining experience, which is essential to not overeating!

Our brain needs the psychological satisfaction from eating. Shoving food down your throat doesn't let you sit back and enjoy the rush of serotonin and other 'feel good' hormones and chemicals that your body releases into your blood stream.

We thrive off these feelings, and if you rush through your meal, you don't get to enjoy them as easily. Your brain will be left psychologically dissatisfied and be craving more food because of it.

With that said, it's very difficult to slow down, when our minds are racing at 100 miles an hour and we are constantly thinking about other things like work, who is babysitting the kids this weekend, and other issues that occupy our day-to-day life

But if we apply just a little bit of effort we can do it, and help shed a few extra pounds.

Try These Hacks...

1: Set down your utensil in between each bite of food.

2: Chew each bite of food 20-30 times.

3: Don't have distractions like TV when you eat.

Try these out. I can guarantee you that this will be very difficult to do, but if you can consistently implement this strategy, you will lose weight naturally!
